Zoo Adventure

Stick It Down February Double Page Sketch

Here is my take on the February Double Page Sketch over at Stick It Down.

These photos are from when my youngest had a "camp out" at the local zoo.  They had a lot of fun and got a personal tour of the zoo.

I used Echo Park Jungle Safari papers.  I cut the palm leaves, giraffe silhouettes and title with my Cricut.  All were from Design Space.  I didn't like the look of plain cardstock so I lined the green palms with clear Nuvo drops, stamped a Kaisercraft grid stamp on the kraft colored palms and lined the title in various colors.  I also added some stenciled distressed type lines with some matte paste.

But First Tea

Stick It Down Single Page Team for February

Here is the fun sketch for Feb. from Stick It Down:

I made this background a while back when I was in a mixed media background making mode.  I used Vicki Boutin watercolor markers on this one.  I didn't like how the orange came out so bright so I set aside, hoping that it would get used one day.  I'm still not in love with the bright orange but the orange and green matched my photos that I wanted to scrap.

Here is a closer look at the mixed media:

I used the bottom of a bottle to stamp the circles with watercolor.

The photos are from when my daughter and I went on a hunt for Boba tea.  We tried it and really liked it!  I went through my stash to find papers that would match.  I used some Bella Blvd (black dotted) and Ella & Viv (green grass).  To tone down the orange a bit, I put vellum bubbles behind the title and around the page.  I cut the title with my cricut.  I found the title in design space.  I finished it off with some Vicki Boutin puffy stickers from my stash.

Drawing Inspiration from Scraps

I started with this picture of my daughter.  I knew I wanted to go with a Valentine collection to match with the red/pink in the photo.  I found that some scraps I had from Simple Stories Kissing Booth collection matched well.  The problem was I only had one full sheet and one gingham strip left.  I also had a few die cut pieces and that was it.  So where do I go from there?

I looked at the backside of the full sheet for inspiration.  The journaling cards gave me lots of ideas.  First, I liked the wood grain that was featured.  I had a Simple Stories wood grain paper in my stash that would match perfectly.  I also drew off of what colors/patterns that were matched with the wood grain card.  I noticed the black striped cupcake.  I had black diagonal striped paper in my stash as well (Pretty Little Studio).   The other papers were pulled from my color sorted stash of cardstocks.  It really helps to know what you have on hand or just dig through your stash.

This was my submission for the Becky Fleck sketch challenge over at A Cherry On Top.  Here is the sketch:
